Hans-Walter Peters new president of the Association of German Banks

Handover of office at the Association of German Banks: Hans-Walter Peters, spokesman for the managing partners of Joh. Berenberg, Gossler & Co. KG, takes over today as president of the Association of German Banks from Jürgen Fitschen, co-chief executive officer of Deutsche Bank AG, whose three-year term simultaneously expires. Mr Peters was elected president at the Association’s regular board of directors meeting in Frankfurt on 9 November 2015.

Hans-Walter Peters comes with plenty of experience of work at association level: he has actively served on the Association of German Banks’ board of directors for the past five years and in 2013 he was elected to its presidential board. In addition, Berenberg, a Hamburg-based private bank, is represented on a number of Association committees.

The handover of the presidential chair to a private banker reflects the Association of German Banks’ membership structure. While in Andreas Schmitz (HSBC Trinkaus and Burkhardt AG) and then Jürgen Fitschen (Deutsche Bank AG) the Association has been represented most recently in the political and public arena by a regional bank and a big bank respectively, this task now falls to a private banker again as from today.
