The European + International Affairs team initiates, coordinates and supports the association’s activities at European and international level.
The association has had a representative office in Brussels since 2004, thus allowing it to take into account the vital importance of EU banking and financial market-related regulatory initiatives for the German banking market and the increasing integration of European financial services markets. The Brussels team has also been responsible for international affairs since 2020 – an area that has become increasingly significant for the association.
The Brussels team members are the first point of contact for dialogue partners from institutions and organisations at European and international level. In the EU, these are the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council and the Permanent Representations. We also actively seek dialogue with the wider public, such as with the scientific and business communities, and the media.
The team keeps abreast of legislative topics that are relevant for the association, evaluates political developments, organises bilateral discussions, hosts events – from working breakfasts to panel discussions and courtyard receptions – compiles information in a variety of formats, supports committees and coordinates comments, manages our social media presence and represents the association in its day-to-day activities.
The European + International Affairs team are constantly in contact with the European Banking Federation (EBF) and other international organisations, such as the International Banking Federation (IBFed), the Institute of International Finance (IIF), the Institute of International Bankers (IIB) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). In addition, as one of the sponsoring associations, the Association of German Banks is involved in many regional initiatives for the German economy, such as the Transatlantic Business Initiative (TBI), the Latin America Initiative (LAI), the Asia-Pacific Committee (APA), the North Africa Middle East Initiative (NMI) and the Ost-Ausschuss (OA).
