Recent trends in UK financial sector regulation and possible implications for the EU, including its approach to equivalence
The Representation of Hessen and the Association of German Banks (BdB) traditionally organize dinner discussions focusing on issues pertaining to EU/UK relations, be they finance-related or on more general topics. Guest speakers as well as participants are high-ranking representatives of the EU Institutions, Permanent Representations and other highly relevant institutions. Esteemed speakers such as Edouard Fernandez Bollo (ECB/SSM Board), Steven Maijoor (former ESMA Chair) and MEPs Markus Ferber and Kay Swinburne have previously participated in the dinner discussions.
While the outlook for EU/UK relations has considerably improved with the recent formal adoption of the Windsor Framework, the regulatory and legislative agendas of the EU and UK have started diverging since Brexit. The new study “Recent trends in UK financial sector regulation and possible implications for the EU, including its approach to equivalence”, was requested by the European Parliament and conducted by Prof Thorsten Beck and Assistant Professor Christy Ann Petit. The findings of this study will serve as a basis for discussion on the future of EU/UK relations in the financial sector, with additional views from both the UK and EU.
