The European Banking Authority (EBA) launched a public consultation in July 2023 on its Draft Guidelines on the establishment and maintenance of national lists or registers of credit servicers under Directive 2021/2167. The proposed Guidelines specify the types of information that national lists or registers have to include, with a view to enhance the transparency for credit purchasers and borrowers and to bring about a level playing field across the Union. In general, GBIC supports the establishment of harmonised lists or registers of credit servicers within the EU. In its comments GBIC points out that the EBA should also aim to create an overarching, Europe-wide consolidated register of all credit servicers based on data from all the national registers, so as to ensure Europe-wide transparency on credit servicers and to standardise and simplify the supervisory process.
