Financial stability, administrative complexity, the pressure to compete on the global stage: given these factors, how can Europe create banking supervision that is efficient and appropriate? The publication “Regulatory architecture and competitiveness” discusses these issues, exploring how existing prudential structures and practice can be developed within the single supervisory mechanism (SSM) and in light of the European Supervisory Authorities.

Based on a joint symposium by the Association of German Banks and White & Case, the publication collects contributions from academia, supervisory bodies and practical experience as a means of ana-lysing weaknesses and opportunities for reforming European banking supervision. The focus is on questions of legal protection against Level 2 and Level 3 measures, starting points for simplifying su-pervision without risking resilience and the how excessive bureaucracy affects the ability of the Europe-an banking system to compete on the global stage.
