Panel Discussion: Facing The European Investment Challenge
24th of March 2025

The German Economic Institute (IW) and the Association of German Banks (BdB) would like to invite you to a discussion to reflect on options for public financing and growth reforms with an interesting panel of policymakers and experts from the European Investment Bank, the European Parliament, the European Commission, IW and BdB.

Facing The European Investment Challenge: What Course Do We Need To Set In Public Finance?

on Monday, 24 March 2025 at 18:00 (doors will open at 17:30), at the Representation of North Rhine-Westphalia to the EU Rue Montoyer 47, 1000 Brussels

European competitiveness is the defining topic for today and for our future. The report by Mario Draghi has only been the last in a long line of reports pointing to the fact that Europe needs more investment. This in turn requires greater financial resources for investment in public budgets and progress towards a Savings and Investments Union.

We want to explore ways to create fiscal space for investments in public finances at the European level. What expenditure must be prioritized and which reforms will improve the investment environment on EU and national levels? Can we continue to discard an EU fiscal capacity or common bonds? The discussion will also focus on how European joint funding can be effectively governed and the conditions required for impactful public spending.
