Financial Education
Surveys show that financial literacy among children and young people in Germany is not good enough. Many have only a limited understanding of basic financial topics such as inflation, saving and sustainable investing. Although young people are very interested in financial matters, these subjects are rarely covered at school. This lack of knowledge is worrying, as financial literacy is essential for financial security and personal freedom.
To improve financial education among young people, the Association of German Banks is calling for economic and financial topics to be taught from an early age at school, for example with the help of dedicated teaching materials.

Student competitions
Financial education in particular needs to be presented in a way that is engaging and relevant to students’ everyday lives. This helps spark their curiosity and makes learning about financial topics enjoyable. We believe competitions make everything more exciting, especially when there’s a prize up for grabs. Here you can find our competitions designed to introduce young people to the world of economics, money and finance and give them valuable skills for the future.
SCHULBANKER
SCHULBANKER gives students the chance to experience first-hand how banks and the economy work. Working in teams, they run their own bank in a business simulation and make key management decisions. These include setting interest rates, granting loans, putting together investment funds, training employees and promoting their bank.
The teams compete against one another and have to keep a close eye on market developments and the economic climate. They also have to comply with the requirements of the European Central Bank. The aim is to compete successfully in the market and come out on top.
Open to all students aged 14 to 21.
European Money Quiz
The European Money Quiz is an interactive competition where students can put their financial knowledge to the test. In an exciting quiz format, they answer questions on different aspects of finance, including economics, managing money, saving and investing.
Teams compete against one another and earn points for correct answers. Along the way, students learn the basics of financial literacy and gain useful knowledge they can apply in everyday life.
The European Money Quiz helps them understand how the economy works and why it is important to make informed financial decisions. Successful teams can not only expand their knowledge but also win some great prizes.
Open to all students aged 13 to 15.
Collaborative projects
The Association of German Banks is in regular contact with other organisations involved in financial education. Because one thing is clear: improving financial literacy requires a joint effort. By working together, we can reach as many people as possible and make financial education more widely accessible.
