The discussion about the possible introduction of a digital euro has gained significant momentum in recent months and is increasingly also being conducted politically. If a digital euro is introduced, it must be successful for many reasons: for European citizens and the economy in general, and for European banks and savings banks in particular.

With this new position paper, the German Banking Industry Committee would like to help answer the many questions that are currently still unanswered. After all, only if the introduction of a digital euro offers real added value for everyone involved and at the same time prepares Europe for the digital age can we ultimately speak of a success for the digital euro.
